Bioinformatics Application Developer

We are seeking a motivated individual to join the Bioinformatics Core Facility team at La Jolla Institute for Immunology (LJI: in our mission to further aid in the development of vaccines, immunotherapeutics, and diagnostics, and assist scientists to better understand immune mechanisms.

The developer will contribute to highly visible and impactful projects such as Database of Immune Cell Epigenomics (DICE:, Coronavirus Immunotherapy Consortium (COVIC:, and Immune Epitope Database (IEDB:

●Software development across the entire lifecycle including requirements, design, development and integration, testing, demonstration with the end-user, and operational support
●Apply current technology, tools and techniques toward solving research-based problems.
●Collaborate and communicate effectively both vertically and horizontally

●Degree in computer science, bioinformatics, or related field
●Development experience in Python and at least one of: JavaScript, HTML 5, Perl
●Ability to clearly communicate through email, presentations, group discussions and documentation of processes
●Willingness to learn and apply the latest technologies to suit project requirements

●Familiarity with Python web frameworks (Django, Flask, etc.)
●Experience with AngularJS
●Experience in data visualization and UX/UI design
●Understanding of best practices for information exchange using REST-based APIs
●Basic knowledge of database development (PostgreSQL, MySQL, etc.)
●Familiarity with bioinformatics data and pipelines
