Digital Strategist


La Jolla Institute is looking for a skilled Digital Strategist to develop and implement our digital and social media strategies to create awareness about the institute; to lead our online campaigns to mobilize our supporters to take action and attend events and donate to our organization; and to write compelling content that motivates and moves people.
The ideal candidate is creative and passionate and has experience in developing cross-channel media campaigns.
Because this position functions as part of the Institute Relations team and will frequently interact with the public on the Institute’s behalf, this position requires a professional, welcoming demeanor and strict confidentiality.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

•Develops and implements La Jolla Institute’s digital strategy in collaboration with the Communications and Advancement teams
•Creates awareness about the institute’s mission and achievements
•Supports fundraising campaigns
•Oversees overall strategy on our social media platforms, particularly Facebook
•Integrates donor engagement into digital strategy
•Manages and executes all aspects of La Jolla Institute’s email marketing platform (MailChimp)
•Drafts, edits and proofs digital content
•Creates and edits landing pages, images and graphics
•Strategizes with the Communications and Advancement teams to build the Institute’s mailing list and populate events
•Evaluates strategic and tactical impact and leads analytics integration into digital strategies using email, web, social media, and other metrics
•Performs other duties as assigned


•Commitment to La Jolla Institute’s mission
•Experience in online communications, marketing and/or fundraising, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; presentation skills preferred.
•Experience with social media advertising strategies, including Google AdWords and Facebook Ads.
•Able to quickly learn and adapt new tools, technologies and trends in online communications and fundraising
•Proven ability to assess media performance metrics to inform future strategies;
•Comfortable being La Jolla Institute’s online voice, communicating with supporters and donors, and tactfully deflecting oppositional comments.
•Highly organized, systematic, and versatile, with excellent time and project management skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines.
•Adobe Creative Cloud skills highly desirable
