THE PITCH
The La Jolla Institute is forming an expert team to tackle business systems and processes to make the Institute’s employees be more productive with less effort and more happiness. This position will be the lead on the creation of tools and systems for this effort. You will get to prioritize which technologies and methodologies will be used for the efforts. You will get to be treated as an adult and manage your own work, without someone looking over your shoulder every ten minutes. You will not have to worry about sales numbers or hitting any quotas: we don’t have any customers! You will not have to worry about getting the product released by the holiday season; we don’t manufacture anything! Since you will excel at your work, you will be recognized not just as a great employee, but as someone who routinely makes people’s jobs and lives better. You will have time after work to spend time with your family/walk the dog/learn Italian.

THE OPPORTUNITY: JavaScript Full Stack Developer
The La Jolla Institute is seeking a motivated candidate to combine the art of design with the art of programming. They will work with both front-end and back-end web technologies to build user and system applications. They will also be bridging the gap between the visual elements and the server-side infrastructure, taking an active role on both sides, and defining how the application looks and functions.

The position is also responsible for managing the interchange of data between the server and the users. Their role includes a focus on the development of all server-side logic, definition and maintenance of the central database, and ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front-end. They will also be responsible for integrating the front-end elements built into the application. The position will report to the Director of Management Information Systems.

REQUIREMENTS

• Technical Skills
o You must have a strong understanding of JavaScript, its quirks and workarounds.
o You must have a good understanding of Node.js and frameworks available for it
o HTML5, CSS3, AngularJS
o Good understanding of asynchronous request handling
o Great sense of intuitive UX and UI design
o A portfolio of work is strongly recommended

• Personal Skills
o You will be working with a number of non-technical users. The ability to translate complicated web technologies into lay speak is a must.
o You must be able to organize your work and yourself, including documenting your work for future review/refactoring.

Candidates will be required to complete coding test.

Desirables:

• Technical Skills
o Require.js, AMD, Grunt, Gulp.js, Git/SVN, etc.
o Knowledge of Google Apps and AWS APIs

• Personal Skills
o The ability to present your ideas and recommendations to a crowd in a compelling fashion.
