A full time position is available for a senior laboratory manager at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology, in a laboratory focused on signal transduction and gene transcription whose research is strongly relevant to stem cells and cancer.
This is a managerial position with some aspects of routine lab maintenance, but the candidate will be encouraged to participate in lab projects if he/she desires, either independently or under the supervision of senior lab members.
The position involves managing the day-to-day operations of two adjoining laboratories. Duties include ordering and maintaining lab reagents and stocks; keeping track of a large mouse colony; writing and amending animal, biohazard and recombinant DNA protocols; enforcing lab policies and safety standards; and communicating with and coordinating the activities of a diverse group of lab members (postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduates and technicians). A minimum time commitment of 3 years is required.
The ideal candidate will be a motivated and well-organized individual with a Bachelor’s degree and a strong background in the biological sciences, with 2 years or more experience as a lab manager and expertise in one or more of the following areas: cell culture, mouse handling, biochemistry and molecular biology.
We will also consider well-qualified candidates with strong laboratory skills who do not have formal experience as a lab manager.
