A Laboratory Support Service Technician (LSS Tech) is responsible for washing and drying glassware and distributing it to appropriate locations within the laboratories. He or she maintains the glass-washing facility, keeping it clean and swept, and picks up dirty glassware from the laboratories. He or she may sterilize glassware and other items using a steam autoclave. Collects and treats biohazardous dry waste from laboratories and disposes waste in accordance with regulations. A LSS Tech performs routine maintenance of glass-washing equipment, provides various services to help maintain lab sink area cleanliness and performs other related duties as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Clean, sanitize, and sterilize glassware as per laboratory request
•Distributes clean/sterilized glassware to laboratories
•Pick-up dirty glassware from laboratories
•Maintains glass-wash facility
•Daily maintenance of washing/drying machines and autoclaves
•Cleans and sanitizes the support equipment
•Provides consumable cleaning supplies to labs
•Cleans and organizes laboratory sink areas
•Pick-up biohazard wastes from laboratories
•Treats biohazardous waste per SOP and regulations
•Other duties as assigned.
1.Must have manual dexterity in both hands.
2.Must be able to understand and follow verbal instruction in English.
3.Must be able to read and interpret (understand) documents such as safety rules, standard procedures, operating instructions for cage washing equipment and autoclaves, etc., which are written in English.
4.Must be able to maintain written records in English as required by SOP and regulations.
5.Must be able to stand for prolong periods. This job has very limited work while sitting.
6.Must be able to exercise diplomacy and flexibility in interactions with multinational scientific staff.
7.Must be able to lift 25lbs
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience a plus.
