The La Jolla Institute is seeking a motivated individual to play a key role in supporting project management of multiple NIH grants and contracts in the Vaccine Discovery Division, involving research studying immune signatures associated with human disease in the labs of Drs. Alessandro Sette and Bjoern Peters. The project assistant will work closely with a project manager (PM), who in turn supports scientists researching T cell responses associated with infectious diseases and vaccination. This is an excellent opportunity to gain entry level project management experience and a unique chance to work with some of the world’s most influential scientists in the field of immunological research.
The project assistant will serve as a resource for helping to manage and communicate information relating the status of various project activities. Primary responsibilities include helping the PM with the following tasks: coordinating overall project activity, documenting progress via regular status reports, managing logistics including making arrangements for meetings/teleconferences, presentations, and seminars, preparing and submitting IRB documents and tracking manuscripts for scientific publications and conferences.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and be highly motivated to learn quickly in order to become an actively contributing member of the Vaccine Discovery team.
• Bachelor’s degree in biosciences such as immunology, microbiology, biochemistry, or related field
• Able to think critically and solve problems
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint
• Excellent time management skills
• Able to work with a diverse group of people
• Good communication skills
This job is expected to be part-time (20-30 hrs per week), with the potential to become full-time if funding allows.
