A full-time position for a research technician is immediately available in Division of Inflammation Biology at the La Jolla Institute for Immunology (San Diego). The successful candidate will join a team of scientists investigating inflammation as a defense reaction caused by tissue damage or injury, specifically in atherosclerosis. The research involves molecular biology, flow cytometry, cell sorting, high-throughput next generation sequencing technologies (RNA-Seq, ChIP-Seq, Nextera-Seq).
Most of the work will be done on human blood cells (BSL2). Pertinent training will be provided.
This position requires a 2 to 3-year commitment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The candidates will support active research and day-to-day operations of our research core under the direct supervision of the core director. We seek candidates who are diligent and meticulous while meeting deadlines, who display initiative and are interested in contributing intellectually to the project.
The candidate will have to routinely process a large number of samples; therefore an exceptional level of organization, record-keeping and time management is required for this position. Specific responsibilities include but not limited to:
•Nucleic acid extraction
•Sample preparation for RNA-Seq and other high throughput technologies
•Quality assessment/logging of samples through appropriate equipment
•Mass cytometry (CyTOF)
•Routine Laboratory duties
•Keeping abreast of current technologies and suggesting innovative ways to combine them in a biologically meaningful setting
Minimum requirements for this position include: a bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in biology, biochemistry or related field. Data entry and analysis in Microsoft Excel.
