Dr. Mahley is the founder and former President of the J. David Gladstone Institute, an independent research institute affiliated with the University of California, San Francisco. He currently holds the position of Senior Investigator and President Emeritus at the J. David Gladstone Institutes and as a Professor of Pathology and Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Mahley is the founder of E-Scape Bio, Inc., a biotech company formed to bring new compounds to treat Alzheimer’s disease through clinical trials.
Dr. Mahley, who is internationally recognized as an expert on heart disease, cholesterol metabolism, and Alzheimer’s Disease, is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Medicine, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He received the Builders of Science Award from Research!America for his leadership as Gladstone’s founding Director and President.
Dr. Mahley earned his B.A. from Maryville College in Maryville, Tennessee and his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, where he also completed an internship in pathology.
