Clare Grotting, MBA

Clare Grotting joined LJI as an Advancement Officer in February 2020. She is responsible for raising funds to support leading Institute priorities, with a special focus on cancer immunotherapy research. She has also spearheaded LJI’s planned giving program and now manages The Tullie and Rickey Families SPARK Awards for Innovations in Immunology. She also sits on LJI’s diversity, equity and inclusion committee, LJIdea, where she chairs the Faculty and Board Recruitment subcommittee.

Prior to joining LJI, Clare worked for public media for over ten years where she managed various community engagement and educational programs, marketing campaigns and development initiatives. In 2007, Clare moved from Charlottesville, Virginia to San Diego to serve as an Americorps VISTA for the Neighborhood House Association, where she led early literacy workshops for Head Start families.

Outside of LJI, Clare volunteers as Vice President of the San Diego Planned Giving Partnership and sits on the board of Wayword Radio, Inc., the organization behind the A Way With Words radio show and podcast. She also enjoys making beaded jewelry which she sells at local markets on the weekends.

Clare has an MBA from San Diego State University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia. She lives in Encinitas with her husband and their dog, Eddy.
